YOUR DATA, YOUR CONTROL

✅ Local-First Privacy Architecture
📄

Introduction

SECTION 01

Welcome to Kislick's Privacy Policy. This document explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application ("App", "Kislick", or "Service"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you understand exactly how your data is managed.

Kislick ("we", "us", or "our") operates as a privacy-first application designed for movie and book enthusiasts who want to track their cultural consumption journey without compromising their personal data.

🔒 Privacy Commitment: Kislick is built on the principle that your personal data belongs to you. We have designed our App to minimize data collection and maximize your control over your information.

By using Kislick, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the App.

Effective Date: January 13, 2026

💡

Our Privacy Philosophy

SECTION 02

Kislick was built with a fundamentally different approach to user data. We believe that tracking your movies and books should be a private, personal experience that doesn't require surrendering your data to cloud servers or third parties.

Our Core Privacy Principles:

  • Local-First Architecture: All your data is stored exclusively on your device. We don't maintain servers that store your personal information
  • No Account Required: You can use Kislick without creating an account, providing an email address, or sharing any personal identifiers
  • Zero Network Transmission: By default, your movie logs, book entries, ratings, and notes never leave your device
  • Minimal Data Collection: We only collect what is absolutely necessary for the App to function
  • Transparency: We are completely transparent about what data exists and where it is stored
  • User Control: You have complete control over your data, including the ability to delete everything by simply uninstalling the App

💻 Technical Implementation: Kislick uses SQLite database technology for local storage. Your movie and book entries, ratings, notes, and preferences are stored in a database file on your device. Images are stored as local files with only filenames referenced in the database.

📊

✅ Privacy Verification: You can verify our privacy claims by using your device in airplane mode. Kislick will function completely normally without any network connection, demonstrating that your data never needs to leave your device.

Data Storage

SECTION 04

Understanding where and how your data is stored is fundamental to understanding your privacy with Kislick.

Local Storage Architecture:

  • SQLite Database: All structured data (movie entries, book entries, goals, K Coin balance) is stored in a local SQLite database file on your device
  • Image Files: Photos you upload (movie posters, book covers) are stored as image files in the App's local storage directory
  • Preferences: App settings and preferences are stored using iOS's standard UserDefaults system

What This Means For You:

  • Your data exists only on your physical device
  • If you lose your device or uninstall the App, your data will be lost unless you have a device backup
  • Your data is protected by your device's security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID)
  • No one, including us, can access your data remotely

⚠ Important Backup Notice: Because all data is stored locally, we strongly recommend regular device backups through iTunes or iCloud. If you uninstall Kislick or lose your device without a backup, your data cannot be recovered.

🔧

How We Use Information

SECTION 05

Since Kislick operates on a local-first model, the "use" of your information is primarily by you, through the App interface. Here's how information flows within Kislick:

Your Data Usage Within the App:

  • Vault (Library): Your movie and book entries are displayed for browsing, searching, and filtering
  • Journey (Timeline): Your entries are organized chronologically to show your cultural consumption journey
  • Insights (Stats): Your data is analyzed locally to generate statistics, progress tracking, and goal completion metrics
  • Search: Your entries are indexed locally to enable fast searching by title

Technical Operations:

  • Database queries to retrieve and display your entries
  • Image loading and caching for performance
  • Local calculations for statistics and progress tracking
  • K Coin balance management for in-app features

What We Do NOT Do With Your Data:

  • We do not analyze your data for advertising purposes
  • We do not create user profiles based on your viewing or reading habits
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your information
  • We do not use your data for machine learning or AI training
  • We do not share your data with third parties for marketing
👥

Data Sharing

SECTION 06

Kislick's local-first architecture means that data sharing is extremely limited. Here is a complete disclosure of any potential data sharing:

We Do NOT Share Your Data With:

  • Advertisers or ad networks
  • Data brokers or analytics companies
  • Social media platforms
  • Marketing partners
  • Any third parties for commercial purposes

Limited Exceptions:

  • Apple App Store: When you make in-app purchases, Apple processes the transaction. We receive only confirmation of purchase, not your payment details
  • Crash Reporting: If you have enabled crash reporting on your device, anonymized crash data may be shared with Apple's crash reporting service
  • Legal Requirements: We may be required to disclose information if compelled by law, court order, or government request. However, since we don't have access to your local data, we cannot provide what we don't possess

🔒 Data Sharing Summary: In practical terms, your movie logs, book entries, ratings, notes, and images are never shared with anyone. They exist only on your device and are accessible only to you.

🔐

Data Security

SECTION 07

The security of your data is paramount. Kislick's local-first architecture provides inherent security benefits, supplemented by iOS platform security features.

Security Measures:

  • Local Storage: Data stored only on your device eliminates risks associated with cloud breaches, server hacks, or network interception
  • iOS Sandboxing: Kislick operates within iOS's app sandbox, preventing other apps from accessing your Kislick data
  • Device Encryption: When you enable a passcode on your iOS device, your data is encrypted at rest using hardware encryption
  • No Network Transmission: Your data is never transmitted over networks, eliminating man-in-the-middle attacks and network vulnerabilities
  • Secure Coding Practices: Our App is developed following iOS security best practices

Your Security Responsibilities:

  • Enable a strong passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID on your device
  • Keep your iOS version updated to receive security patches
  • Do not jailbreak your device, as this compromises iOS security features
  • Be cautious about who has physical access to your device
  • Regularly backup your device to prevent data loss

🛡 Security Architecture: By keeping all data local, Kislick eliminates entire categories of security risks. There are no servers to hack, no databases to breach, and no network traffic to intercept. Your data's security is directly tied to your device's security.

📅

Data Retention

SECTION 08

With Kislick's local storage model, data retention is entirely under your control.

How Long Data Is Retained:

  • User Content: Your movie entries, book entries, ratings, notes, and images are retained indefinitely on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App
  • K Coin Balance: Your K Coin balance persists as long as the App is installed
  • App Preferences: Settings are retained until you reset them or uninstall the App

Data Deletion:

  • Individual Entries: You can delete individual movie or book entries at any time through the App interface
  • Complete Deletion: Uninstalling Kislick will permanently delete all App data from your device
  • No Remote Copies: Since we don't store your data on servers, there are no remote copies to delete

⚠ Deletion Is Permanent: When you delete entries or uninstall the App, the data is permanently removed. We cannot recover deleted data as we never had access to it in the first place.

Your Privacy Rights

SECTION 09

Kislick's local-first architecture means you inherently have complete control over your data. Here are your rights and how to exercise them:

Your Rights:

  • Right to Access: All your data is accessible directly through the App interface. You can view all your entries, ratings, and notes at any time
  • Right to Rectification: You can edit any entry at any time through the App to correct or update information
  • Right to Deletion: You can delete individual entries or all data by uninstalling the App

  • Uninstall the App to delete all data

👶

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through our App, please contact us at kislick155913@outlook.com. However, given our local-only storage model, we would not have access to such information.

🔒 Third-Party Minimization: We have intentionally avoided integrating analytics, advertising, and tracking services that are common in mobile apps. This decision prioritizes your privacy over our ability to collect usage data.
